‘Trypraying’ is a non-threatening statement. It is an encouragement for anyone to talk to their Maker. In 2019 it will be a topic of conversation because it will be visible for all to see: banners on churches and an impressive bus advertising campaign in many cities and across all Scotland.
The trypraying booklet is not for Christians. It is unapologetically for those outside the church: the irreligious and the self-respecting agnostic! It is an outrageous exposure to the grace and power of God. It's something to give away to people you meet. So you will need to use it and then lose it.
The idea is for everyone to be given the booklet one Sunday to use themselves. The next week everyone is encouraged to look for a God-given opportunity to give it to a neigbour, colleague or a friend. When churches do this together it can make an impact across the whole town or city.
Churches across the UK are making use of this initiative. Last year there were around 500 churches involved. This year there will be more. Already churches in a number of cities are working on using trypraying in a coordinated and united process. Several places are planning to use media. Across the whole of Scotland the plan is to have a full-bloodied, bus advertising campaign.
The heart of it all however is that simple step of people beginning to talk to their Maker. Being given the trypraying booklet with a straightforward encouragement to ‘try praying for a week and see what happens’ has been the starting point for many.
There are of course lots of ideas. Check out some of them on our ideas page and perhaps come up with others.
